Built just after the 1906 earthquake and fire had devastated Russian Hill, and the high demand for housing was met by skilled craftsmen-builders rather than by known architects, these four cottages were once an art school in the 1940s and home to the artist and teacher Marian Hartwell and many of her students. In 2003, the cottages were designated as an official SF Landmark.

After a 10-year renovation by Jerome Buttrick of Buttrick Projects Architecture + Design, these cottages have now been masterfully reinvented and reconstructed using their rich history and architectural details with modern finishes and floor plans.

Weinstein Gallery was asked to curate this special exhibition to celebrate the spirit of art and creativity that the cottages continue to inspire today.
